*Virtual* Wednesday, Jan 26th: Zoom Like an Engineer! - Build your Model Rocket with instruction from Northrop Grumman and Raytheon Engineers
Connect virtually on Zoom as you discover the dynamics of rocketry with professional engineers who will instruct you on how to build your own model rocket at home. Please note the list of required supplies below.
*In-person* Saturday, Jan 29th: Blast Off! - Model Rocket Launch at the Joint Forces Training Base
The Joint Forces Training Base’s DoD youth STARBASE (dodstarbase.org) team has invited GSOC to launch our model rockets as part of STARBASE’s annual competition series. Girls will watch and learn about model rockets from the STARBASE team before having the opportunity to launch the rocket they built at home.
Please note: The rocket launch on Jan 29th is wind and weather permitting as well as at the discretion of the Joint Forces Training Base flight command. There is no guarantee that we will be able to reschedule the launch in the event of cancellation. Launching of the rockets will be handled by staff of the Joint Forces Training Base.
Please be prepared to provide the following materials for your Girl Scout: Elmer’s white or wood glue, X-Acto blade type knife (with adult assistance/ supervision), cutting surface, pencil, and ruler. Girls will be encouraged to decorate their rockets with crayons, markers, and other suggested materials before Saturday’s launch. Detailed instructions and day of event logistics will be provided to registrants prior to the program. Families are encouraged to enjoy both the build and launch together and parents and caregivers may attend the launch with their girls. Please be prepared to walk ¼ mile from parking to launch site and bring your own chair.
The STEM Patrol would like to thank the Joint Forces Training Base, the JFTB STARBASE team, and volunteer engineers from Northrop Grumman and Raytheon for their collaboration and support of this program.
This event accepts Cookie Dough, OC Bucks, and Juliette Dollars! Girls must complete online registration and pay in full. Next fill out the Reimbursement form after you have participated in the event.
