This is a 6-mile hike with 1200 feet of gain; the summit is 8,038 feet. This is considered a class 1 hike, which means there is no climbing, it is simply following a trail.  It should take about 4 hours for the hike itself.  We will celebrate at the summit and sign the summit register!

*All hikers must have a day pack with 2 quarts of water and lunch.  They should have sunscreen and sunglasses, wear a hat with a brim, and bring a jacket. Sneakers with a tread are OK, hiking sneakers are preferred.  Socks must be worn, shoulders covered, and no sleeveless tops. If it is cool, 1 quart of water should be enough.  Carry extra water in the car.  There is no place to get water along the trail or at the trailhead.

There are no restrooms along the trail.  To be prepared, carry toilet paper in a plastic bag and bring an empty plastic bag to hold used toilet paper.  We will talk about “leave no trace” hiking. There is a restroom near the trailhead and restrooms on the way along Angeles Crest Highway.

Hikers will meet at 9:00 AM Sunday at the La Canada Rideshare location

Participants will receive a participation patch upon completion of the hike.

Cost: $5.00 per girl (does not include parking)

Parking: Rideshare parking location

Location: La Canada rideshare meeting point

(east/right side of Hwy 2, about 0.2 miles north of CA-210, above intersection of Milmada & Flanders).  Take the 210 freeway west.  When you get close to the Lake Ave. exit, start easing into the right lane to stay on the 210.  You’ll go several miles to reach La Canada.  Exit at Highway 2/Angeles Crest and turn right.  Rideshare parking will be on the right. You turn right on Milmada and left at the first street, park on the side closest to Angeles Crest, meaning you will have to turn around to do so.

The drive from Orange County will take about an hour to reach the rideshare location. From the rideshare location to the Trailhead will take another hour. Please plan accordingly with traffic. All vehicles must have an Adventure Pass to park. This can be purchased at REI and other locations; it is $5 for a one-day pass. Carpooling is recommended, especially from the ride share location.

Map of the park and Trail:  Map of the trail will be provided by the volunteer lead at the meeting site.

This is not a drop-off event. Please follow the required adult/girl ratios.

Event Contact:  Jill Patterson will be the event lead- jillpatterson@yahoo.com
