Travel Training (Yorba Linda Program Center, 5/2/18)

Adult Learning (Training) is required for Troop/Group Volunteers planning to travel more than 300 miles in one direction –OR– outside of California. This is not for Girl Scout Destinations. Travel Training MUST be completed for your travel application to be approved.

If this is your first time to travel with Girl Scouts or you’d like to review what it takes to get a trip together, join us for an educational evening on the ins and outs of Girl Scout travel.  You will leave with a great understanding of what it takes to put together a Girl-Led trip that is a fun adventure for all!

Recommend viewing the Troop Travel Guidelines and Safety Activity Checkpoints for Trip/Travel (page 150).

By the end of Travel Training, you will be able to:

• Use the readiness factors to help girls and adults prepare for extended trips, discuss different types of Girl Scout travel opportunities, and apply progression to these opportunities
• Put together a trip plan and timeline in keeping with the council’s procedures; Build a team of adults to support the girls in their travels; and clarify the adults’ roles and responsibilities
• Guide girls through budgeting and money-earning to support a Girl Scout trip
• Anticipate common risks associated with trips and manage (reduce or eliminate) those risks; guide girls in achieving physical fitness for the trip; and guide girls in packing for the trip.

Additionally, arriving more than 20 minutes after the start of training may cause you to forfeit credit for this adult learning opportunity. Please plan accordingly.
