Apprentice
Grades: 12th grade or 17-year-old
Location: Camp Scherman
Accommodations: Lower Camp Cabins
Step into the spotlight with our Apprentice program—an exclusive opportunity crafted for those who've conquered CIT I and CIT II, yet find themselves just shy of 18 and ineligible for summer staff roles. Get ready for a summer like no other, where Apprentices take center stage, immersing themselves in the heart of camp life. Picture this: spending your summer at camp, delving deep into a specific program area of interest, and actively shaping the camp experience for all. But that's not all—Apprentices also get a backstage pass to learn the intricacies of the camp business, adding a layer of real-world insight to their adventure. For those eager to seize this opportunity, reach out to the Outdoor Director at ejohnson@girlscoutsoc.org for an application. But mark your calendar—Apprentice applications are due by 6 PM on April 20, 2026.
**This session includes weekend breaks from Friday to Monday. Apprentices can ride the bus home on Friday and up on Monday or be driven to and from camp by a parent/guardian.
At Girl Scouts, we believe every child should have the chance to experience camp-no matter their financial situation. Camp Scherman uses flexible, membership-style pricing system with three tiers so families can choose the option that best fits their needs.
- GSOC Girl Scouts may select Tier 1, our most subsidized rate, or Tier 3, which reflects the true cost of operating summer sleepaway camp.
- Visiting Girl Scouts from other councils may choose Tier 2, a subsidized rate for non-GSOC members, or Tier 3.
Families are encouraged to choose the tier that aligns with their membership type and financial comfort. All selections are completely confidential and do not affect the camp experience in any way. No matter which tier you choose, every camper receives the same high-quality, memorable Camp Scherman experience.
